Private Loan Decision?

I just recently applied for a private student loan, which I really need. I'm not experienced with applying for private loans or any loans. The decision came back with "I'm sorry but we'll have to further review your loan, and will send you a status update in the mail"..This totally confused me. Does this mean an approval is pending or a denial? B/c wouldn't they just tell me "Not Approved", or are they really reviewing it? Im worried b/c I really want to get approved, and I dont have a decent co-signer this year b/c my parents are pretty much behind on their credit bills, affecting their credit rating, and they took out a $10,000 loan for my sisters education last year.
