What is the difference between alloy and aluminum wheels?

I am looking at some different cars and noticed that different types of wheels are offered. I do not like steel wheels just based on look, so I have eliminated those, but I was wondering what the difference between alloy and aluminum was. What is better and why. Thanks for your help
